Tir Canol are working in partnership with Woodland Trust, who manage the Allt Boeth woodland at the top of Cwm Rheidol, to support first steps in developing a Cwm Rheidol Community emergency plan. The idea for a plan has come from the community, who have experienced several wildfires in the last eight years, and have already approached the Mid and West Wales Fire Brigade for support in fire prevention. Although the need for a plan has been triggered by the wildfires, we hope the process of developing a plan will be useful in providing information for other communities across the area, and Wales.

To begin the planning, we will be working with Rupert Allan through May to develop the initial piece of mapping of Cwm Rheidol’s community assets, fire risk areas, residents locations, water points, power etc. and anything else that we might be useful to add to an emergency plan. This will be then followed by a series of meetings/workshops with the community and stakeholders to work up a plan.
With thanks to support from Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust in Wales for supporting the sessions with Rupert Allan.
